Meet the Ceo
Sean is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (Bachelors in Social Work) and the University of Minnesota (Masters in Educational Psychology). A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, he has been stepping since age 14. For the past 20 years, Sean has served as an Artistic Director and coach, teaching youth the history and art of step. He empowers youth through education, focusing on health, fitness, history, and stepping with his Step with Soul “Ministering with Hands and Feet” program and coaching the Wolfrider Step Team at Park High School in Minnesota.
Sean founded Step with Soul in 2009 to help young African-American males (ages 5–18) develop integrity and self-esteem. The ministry uses stepping to teach spiritual and moral character, African-American history, confidence, leadership, discipline, unity, and brotherhood. Step with Soul includes two teams: a middle school team coached by Sean and a high school team coached by Vincent Knox. Since its founding, the ministry has expanded, involving members from various Minnesota churches and schools throughout the Minneapolis area.
Sean taught step to K-8 at Best Academy Charter School in Minneapolis and is now currently a full-time Step instructor at Prodeo Academy, Columbia Heights. He has partnered with Ordway Theater, Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis and St. Paul School Districts, Center of Performing Arts, National Step Association, Step Afrika, and others nationwide. Since 2014, he has led Step and Fitness Workshops in the Twin Cities, judged the 2017 National Step Association competition, served as Midwest ambassador for the 2017 National Step Association Camp, and is President of the Midwest Step League.
Sean Burns
Who we are
Step With Soul is a dynamic step ministry dedicated to glorifying God through powerful artistic expression and spoken word. Established in 2017 under the leadership of Mr. Sean Burns, the group has ministered at a diverse range of venues and events. Their impactful performances have graced stages such as the Ordway Theater and CHS Field, as well as celebrated Juneteenth events, the Candy Fresh TV show, and numerous churches throughout the Twin Cities.
The goal of this program is to inspire and challenge students both mentally and physically through the art of stepping, equipping them to excel beyond the classroom. Beyond mastering stepping, we will emphasize character growth, spiritual development, leadership cultivation, community building, and the creation of a step routine designed to inspire and engage the world.
